Financial benefit should be the prime....

Topic : "Financial benefit should be the prime criterion in deciding a career"

Career is defined as a person's course or progress through life. A person choosing the right career is an intimidating task, especially in this competitive world which offers various opportunities and growth leading to a golden goal.  Career can actually make or break one’s life, so it is important to make the right choice. When deciding a career, one thinks about the financial benefits choosing that career. There is a famous adage which goes like this, "If you choose the job you love, you don’t have to work a single day in your life". A wrong decision can trample you onto a different path. So, lets look at whether the "Financial benefit is the prime criteria in deciding a career".

No, Financial benefit should not be the prime criterion in deciding a career:

Education plays an important role in getting you the right job in your field of choice. When it comes to choosing any field/ majors, there are courses on Management, Aviation, Medicine etc.,  which offers greater return on educational investment. In India fields like  History, Philosophy, etc., do not have a broad scope which can earn you a lot of money. However while deciding a career, monetary benefit can not be the prime criteria. People want to live for their passions. In any field, without performance one is not recognized in his own organization. If the career chosen is not of one's own interest it is tough to deliver. So, they end up in becoming a mediocre with financial gains. There is no point in choosing a career which pays high and one performs very badly, It's austere.

Choosing a career should be of one's own interest, skills, specialization and abilities in handling it. Some people looking only at the financial benefits sacrifice their career and take a different track all together. Do those people have job satisfaction. Definitely 'NOT', people working only for money do not enjoy their work. They would not perform to their utmost capacity and will always be lacking in overall commitment and taking responsibilities. When we take the case of an IT Industry, even today we can find some people working in a small companies giving importance to their career growth rather than looking for financial benefits. The reason behind this is, in a small company one holds the responsibility of designing, developing, and delivering the product/ a software. He / She is exposed to more number of components and takes the tasks with challenge and chase success. Whilst  the company is not top- listed they work with full enthusiasm[Enjoying work].

A living classic example, Amitabh bachan was an executive in a company. He had passion to act, So he quit his job for his passion. Now, he has become the star in the world of cinemas. He loved his passion and strived hard to reach great heights. Yeah! Hard work never fails. Practically when we look at the world, If people would have given importance to financial benefits while deciding careers, we would not have seen social activist who help the poor and needy people/  A military man who fights for his/her country / A doctor/ Nurse who cure diseases, etc.,

Money is the byproduct of knowledge. Therefore, If one is skillful in his/her major study, with hard work and performance delivered one can achieve the financial gains in a constant growth. Think on this, "One has pursued a masters/ management study and joins a company where he spends only 2-3 hours of work and gets highly paid. Do you think the person is satisfied doing this job without utilizing his/her skills?" I conclude saying that choosing a career should not be based on the financial benefits.  There are other variants like skills, interests, resources, etc., which needs to be considered while deciding one's career.

Yes, Financial benefit should be the prime criterion in deciding a career:

Life is short, Enjoy each moment. For unrestrained merry making one should be financially opulent. If one can choose a career which can yield him golden eggs, what's wrong in choosing that? Today in this modern world rich people are recognized and honored all over the world. Inline, financial benefits play an important role in deciding the career. Money is a big motivator and makes people work hard in the field whichever they choose. Increased financial benefits can ensure a better and safe future. A person can spend more quality time with his/her family and provide better amenities for the family.

Let us look at a case study: when joining the college, students choose their major study and dreamed to get a job in their respective major companies. But not all got the opportunity to work in their respective field. So they choose IT industry whilst studying major courses other than computer science considering the financial benefits.

Students pursue masters/ management studies, spending a lot of money. Their ultimate aim is to retrieve the educational investment at the earliest. In this situation to avoid bankrupt one would choose a job which yields more money than joining a company which yields less. I agree that career growth with respective to the skills, interests, resources and passion are important. But, being passionate working on a particular field or interest make him/her to stumble in reaching great heights. Therefore, one should wisely choose the career which benefits his/her financial needs to stay in the race. So, I think that financial benefit is the major criterion in deciding a career.
